Into The Dark

Dark stories and bright characters. Come and explore the mysterious just out of sight, the magical barely out of reach, and the horror you daren’t touch. Here, the worlds that once were and could be brush against ours and the shivers they produce scribble across the page like a poet. Or a madman. Whether for adventure, to solve the mystery, or to test your nerve, you have come to the right place. Now sit back, pull the page closer, and pour yourself something nice because we’re just getting started.”

The Steller’s Jay –I– “The Bird”

It was a hot August day when Daniel moved to his new foster home. On the fringes of a nice suburb, the couple’s house sat alone at the end of the cul-de-sac. Around them lay the skeletons of unfinished properties, wood frames left vacant. It reminded Daniel of a...

The Steller’s Jay –II– “The Dream”

Photo by Roksolana Zasiadko on Unsplash Daniel stood before the woods, but they were different now. The trees wider and richer, their tops towering into the night sky. The whirr of stars could be heard over head as they spun through the heavens, diving down to dance...

The Steller’s Jay –III– “The Wolf”

Daniel stood stock still as the wolf watched him from atop the edge of the crater. Penny clung to the collar of his shirt, hiding behind his head. Daniel’s mind raced as he tried to think of something, anything they could do to escape. He was low to the ground, the...

Steven Cousler

Steven began writing in late middle-school with a group of friends. They put together scripts for action adventure shorts they would film on a run-down camera. Eventually as time went on, they couldn’t meet as often as before, but Steven still had stories to tell. Come high school, he turned to pen and paper and with his brother, began to write sketches and shorts the two would then animate. But towards the end of high school, it became too demanding to create their short films. Then an english teacher, Mrs. White, showed him some of the classics and from then on he was determined to become a writer. He set about reading the classics authors, Victor Hugo, Orwell, Chaucer and Shakespeare, Dickens, and a score of others for if he wanted to write, he wanted to learn from the best. Some of his personal favorites are Dostoevsky and Melville for their nuanced and complex characters in extraordinary situations. Steven currently lives in New Mexico and is pursuing a MFA in Creative Writing at New Mexico State University.
